Use the Toolbar or the Edit menu to bring up a dialog box for configuring the question properties of your exam. |
This screen is where you configure the default question properties for your exam. Some of these properties (such as Instructions and Answer Graphics) can be overridden in the question database if desired. The General Tab is concerned with instructions, feedback, height settings, and the location of the question object on the page. Look at the screen below as well as the table of elements to learn more. Click on the other tabs to learn about each one.

Screen Element |
Description |
Instructions - Multiple Choice |
The default initial instructions to be displayed to the user for multiple choice questions. This can be overridden by individual questions if desired. |
Instructions - Fill-in-the-Blank |
The default initial instructions to be displayed to the user for fill-in-the-blank questions. This can be overridden by individual questions if desired. |
Instructions - True or False |
The default initial instructions to be displayed to the user for true or false questions. This can be overridden by individual questions if desired. |
Randomize Answers |
Check to display answers in random order. |
Feedback Setting |
Choose one of the radio buttons to display answer feedback only, question feedback only (e.g., only after the question is scored), both answer and question feedback (concatenated if a single answer and the question is scored when answering), or no feedback at all. The main distinction is in the case of a multiple choice question with more than one correct answer. Answer feedback (if enabled) will be displayed each time an answer is selected. Question feedback (if enabled) will be displayed once the user clicks the Score button. |
Height Settings |
These properties determine how the answer objects are sized. |
Height |
Select how the answer objects such as buttons are sized in the question. The choices are ConstantHeight (specify the exact height of each answer in pixels), SizeToMaximumNumberOfAnswers (automatically size the answers based the number of answers specified [this avoids the objects moving around and being different sizes if some questions have more answers than others], and SizeToPercentageOfSpaceAvailable (make the answers as tall as the space allows). |
Constant Height |
The height to use for all answers (used if the Height setting is ConstantHeight). |
Percentage for Answers |
The percentage of the available space to be split between the answer objects (used if the Height setting is SizeToPercentageOfSpaceAvailable). The rest of the space is divided between the question text and the instructions/feedback. |
Max Number of Answers |
The number of answers to use for calculating answer heights (used if the Height setting is SizeToMaximumNumberOfAnswers). For example, if you set this to 5 and only have 4 answers, then the answers would be sized as if there were 5 answers. So if the next question has 5 answers, the answer objects will be in the same position and will have the same size in both questions. |
Position Type |
Select how the Question is positioned on the HTML form. Exam Engine is configured to use the Absolute value. |
Question Position |
The Left, Top, Width, and Height of the Question. All four values are required. |
